Jay Irvin Green passed away April 19, 2016, at the age of 72, in Houston, Texas. He was surrounded by his most cherished and beloved family along with the wonderful staff of Houston Methodist Hospital.
Jay was a kind and generous soul, who connected deeply with others and the communities in which he lived and served. Jay will be remembered most vividly for his limitless optimism and endearing humor. Jay loved his family deeply and made all those in his company feel cared for and loved.
Born on April 16, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jay was the youngest son of Morris Arthur Green and Thirba Wishingrad Green. Jay graduated in 1969 from Louisiana State University with a degree in Architecture after beginning his studies at Tulane University. In 1971, after his father’s passing, Jay took over the operation of Corsair Neckwear of New Orleans, the company his father founded in 1950 and continued to manage until the time of his death. A creative soul and consummate innovator, Jay practiced architecture in both New Orleans and Austin.
Jay raised his younger children in Austin and later in the Seabrook/Clear Lake area where he was very involved with the Texas Mariners Cruising Association as an avid sailor. In 2001, Jay married Birgit Graeber and shortly thereafter moved to the Shady Acres neighborhood of Houston where he served as President of the Shady Acres Civic Club, contributing to the enhancement of the community. In 2009, Jay and Birgit settled in Praha, a small rural community outside of Flatonia, Texas, where he built their dream house. There, he enjoyed watching his grandnephews Harris and Toby Green-Moran and godson Dalton Otto explore the great outdoors. A dedicated citizen and eternal entrepreneur, Jay served as a director of Flatonia’s Chamber of Commerce and founded several successful local businesses.
In addition to his wife, Birgit, Jay is survived by his twin children Jessica and Justin Green, eldest son Michael Brenner, grandson Colin Rills, brother Howard Green and wife Susan, and his loving family and many friends spread all over the world. Jay was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Thirba Green, and his eldest brother Lester Green.
